C67, (NGC 1097) A barred spiral galaxy,   cropped and downsized to fit screen.
M67 is one of the showpieces in the southern deep sky, but a difficult object for mid-northern observers to see or image. In medium to large amateur scopes C67 shows a prominent central bar structure, and two well defined spiral arms. Like the familiar M51 in the northern skies, the spiral arms have been formed and stretched because of the influence in the nearby small galaxy to the upper right. The smaller galaxy is in the process of being incorporated into the larger C67.
