M58, A Spiral Galaxy
M58 is one of the several barred spiral galaxies in Messier's catalog (others being M61, M91, M95, and M109), although it is sometimes classified as intermediate between normal and barred spirals. M58 is one of the earliest recognized spiral galaxies. It is 60 million light years away and one of the brightest galaxies in the Virgo cluster. Visually it's about 5 arc minutes wide and magnitude 9.7. As with most of the Virgo cluster galaxies, it trails behind the constellation of Leo. It is to the left, or east of the main group, just to the right of and in a line with M60 and M59.
