Open cluster M47 is a coarse cluster of about a dozen bright stars at its core, nestled within the Milky Way. There are about 50 stars within the whole cluster, with its stars scattered over an area in the sky of the size of the full moon. Its distance is about 1,600 light years away, with its stars all within a 12 light year region. Its a young group at an estimated 78 million years. There are two bright stars near the center, each being a double with a smaller very close companion. It is located low in the sky in the middle of the Milky Ways stream, to the east of the Orion.
