Comet NEAT 2001 Q4, near M44 The Bees

Another discovery by NEAT ( the automated Near Earth Asteroid Telescope) designed to detect any sizable asteroid or comet that might come close enough to strike the earth. Although discovered In 2001, it finally came close enough to the sun and our earth to become visible with binoculars for about a week. This photo was taken May 14 2004 as it passed near a famous star cluster of about 350 gravitationally linked stars known as The Bees. My field of view was not quite large enough to get both in one shot so for this mosaic I lined up the stars of the stars that overlapped and combined them into one photo.
