Orion

Besides the Big and Little Dipper, Orion is probably the most recognizable constellation in the night sky. The three belt stars have been the stuff of legend in cultures around the world. The three great pyramids at Ghazi are positioned exactly as and sized according to the brightness of these three stars. In addition, the pyramids are positioned in relation to the Nile River exactly as the three belt stars are positioned in relation to the Milky Way. Not only that but there are pyramids located in the relative positions of Betelguese (left shoulder star) and Rigel (right knee star). Clearly the constellation of Orion had a lot of meaning to the ancient Egyptians. Unfortunately we know nothing of the lore or religion that inspired them. There is ample evidence that as one belief supplanted another, that great effort was taken to obliterate the former. I can only guess that this is why we have little or no reference to Orion and it's motivating connection. We've only noticed the connection in recent decades, and once noticed, a number of other questions turned out to also have logical connections to Orion, but that’s for you to read and discover.

This was hand held so the stars are unfortunately blurred. I'm waiting for this winter again to get another clearer picture.
